Liquid – Lancôme – Nude Miracle
In the midst of the media sensation following actress Lupita Nyongo, she announced that she was a new brand ambassador for Lancôme cosmetics. I’ll admit I was very surprised, but in a good way. I’ve worked in beauty retail before and looked at Lancôme as a brand that just didn’t cater to the needs of black women. When cosmetic brands include women of color they usually seem to stop at shades comparable to the medium-brown of Kelly Rowland but rarely reach the deep dark cocoa that completes the rainbow of skin tones for black women.
In my world – where MAC is a go to brand for women of color, Lancôme seemed somewhat inaccessible. Higher price points and lack of representation made them a brand that just did not interest me, until now. I have a background in marketing so I’m NOT a sucker for advertising but seeing Lupita’s rich dark brown complexion made me a believer and I HAD to try it. I took a trip to Sephora to sample the Nude Miracle foundation a liquid formula for oily skin…and I LOVED IT! The weightless formula glided on like silk and blended effortlessly into my skin leaving a beautiful matte, very skin-like finish. It also absorbs really quickly. It’s a great look for the fall. I am shade 530, the second to last shade in the line. I applied with a stipple/duo fiber brush for an airbrushed look.
CONS: I will say that I don’t care for the packaging. The product comes in a frosted glass bottle with a dropper – yeah like a medicine dropper. The concept of a dropper seems cumbersome to me and a nuisance if you’re in a rush, but 3-4 drops should be enough to cover a full face. There are complaints of it having too much alcohol (possibly why it’s absorbs so quickly) but I didn’t have that experience. It’s also pricey at $42 a bottle, but I’d say it’s worth it. Have you tried it? Let me know what you think!
